Convert between GEDCOM 5.5.1 and 7.0, GEDZIP, GEDCOM X, Gramps XML and Gramps CSV, or for another program, with a report of everything that changed.
Merge two files into one: people who look the same are proposed in pairs with the reasons, and you decide each pair and each piece of information.
Split a tree into two files, a branch and the rest, picked by person and side, with nobody left unlinked in either.
Take a branch out of the file: pick a person and a side, review who and what goes, and keep everyone else linked.
Compare the open file with another: who is only in one of them and what differs, in words, as code, or colored across every page.
Find people entered twice and fold each pair into one record, piece by piece, with every decision yours.
Make a copy for sharing with living people reduced or removed: names, dates, places, events and more, each by your choice.
Fix a file that will not open cleanly: broken links, duplicate IDs, records without an ID, stray lines and garbled text, each fix tickable.
Bring dates into strict GEDCOM form and place names into one spelling, with tidy commas, coordinates and a chosen language.
Replace every name, place, note and identifier with a placeholder, so a file can be sent for support without exposing anyone.

GEDCOM (Genealogical Data Communication) is the universal standard for exchanging family tree data between genealogy applications. It was developed in 1984 and is supported by virtually every family tree platform today. A .ged file contains your family's people, relationships, dates, places, and events, all in one portable file.
You can export a GEDCOM file from Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilySearch and other platforms, then import it here. See how to export a GEDCOM from each platform →
Your family data never leaves your device. When you import a GEDCOM file, it is read and processed entirely inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is sent to any server, and no account is required.
Files you import are saved in your browser's local storage so they're available the next time you visit. This data stays on your device and can be removed at any time.
The site is updated regularly with new features and improvements. The current version is functional but we plan to add more viewing options, better import support, and mobile enhancements. Suggestions are welcome via the feedback form!
